Fledglings!

Here are the boys at the library today. It's story time for 2 year olds, and Robbie comes as a "payback" for KC cheering him on each week at swimclass. They are both so adorable, and I see more and more each day that they are both independent, strong, capable kids!

This is one of the wren fledgelings that came from the nest on our back porch. She and her 4 siblings have all fledged the nest, and have been flitting about the backyard for a week now! All 5 were sitting in this rhodendron in the backyard and I was able to get very close to get quite a few pictures of them. Fledgelings, of course, are in the way of nearing adulthood, starting to find food on their own, and shelter too. Right now Mom and Dad Wren are helping, but I think it won't be too much longer before they are all grown.

I'm so glad I'm not a wren, who has her children about her for such a short time. And too, I think that the boys would hate eating bugs for breakfast!

A nice evening for a walk...or ride!

Yesterday was finally sunny and mild enough for our first family walk in over two weeks! We went up to the local church parking lot so that Rob could practice "no hands" bikeriding, which he very much enjoyed, and KC ran around and around the big field. Finally we went back home, and Lee and KC jogged down the street to try to get away from Paparazzi Momma....but I got 'em anyhow!

A tale of two familes ...

What do you do on yet another rainy late afternoon when everyone is totally stir crazy? You go out to the backyard and stomp in puddles! Then go and look at the raging brook, and come back and stomp some more! Meanwhile, on the backporch...

Mr. Carolina Wren and his beloved mate, are working hard at feeding their younglings! Today we heard them creeling for food for the first time. Poor Mama and Papa have been diving and dashing about in the rain for 9 days trying to keep up with their brood. The nest is so far down in this planter, and the planter is hung so high, that seeing into the nest is very difficult, but I did see at least two young wrens the other day, via my mirror and flashlight!

Did I do that, mummy?!

This wonderful, goofy kid somehow, I think, deleted my settings or my cookies or whatever, and I've been unable to access my Blog! Gasp! Cut off from the world! Unable to express my opinions, post recipes, or just whine for days on end....it was the veritable end of the world as I know it! Who knew blogging can save the sanity of a stay at home mom who's 2 year old bundle of joy has learned to scream in heretofore unknown decibles?? I knew!
